Small Business Champions Awards Night 2018

Small Business Champions Awards Night 2018

The Australian Small Business Champion Awards presents an opportunity for small businesses to be recognised and awarded for the amazing dedication and passion they have for running a small business.

The event, presented by Precedent Productions was this year held at The Star Sydney Event Centre and was attended by over 1,000 people. The floor section of the Centre could not possibly fit 1,000 people, so 100 or so were seated in booths watching over the event from atop.

Thanks to Crystal Productions these events go off without a hitch – the lighting on-stage was beautiful and well lit and the sea of rainbow coloured lights created an energizing vibe that excited guests as they walked up to the stage to receive their award.

For us, as event photographers, this is a massive production. During the event we had three photographers to cover the on-stage awards, another on atmospheric and entertainment shots and a photographer capturing the most important official award photo in the studio. The extended team for this is a salesperson selling the photo packages, friendly support staff and an usher who takes people off-stage and into the studio.

Here are some photos we captured as the night unfolded.

Many thanks to Steve and the team at Precedent Productions for requesting we, again and again, be their trusted awards photography partner at these events.

Five Christmas and New Years Party Photography Ideas and Tips

Five Christmas and New Years Party Photography Ideas and Tips

Planning your office or corporate Christmas or New Year’s party can be so much fun, but also stressful. You want to ensure the venue is perfect, the food is amazing (and there’s enough), and the entertainment creates the wow factor that your guests will be raving about around the water cooler on Monday morning.

It might seem obvious, but have you considered capturing those memories? or even combining the entertainment with the photography? Here are five tips and ideas on how you can enhance this year’s Christmas or New Years party with photography.

1. Polaroid Photo Booth (DIY)

Given the digital age we live in, nothing is only lived once – it’s shared and reposted over and over again on social media platforms. They say that once on the web, always on the web. Given Christmas and New Years is a time to let your hair down, celebrate the wins, new friendships formed and challenges overcome, having this blasted over the internet is not ideal but you want the memory to last.

A super simple way to avoid the digital footprint is with a Polaroid photo booth. To execute you will not need a professional photographer, just a Polaroid camera and film and a well lit photo wall backdrop to pose in front of.

2. Roll Out The Red Carpet (DIY)

Put your guests in the spotlight and make them feel like celebrities as they arrive at this year’s Christmas party.

A Red Carpet Experience will make your guests feel as though they’re arriving at the Golden Globes, stunningly like Emma Stone and in style like Ryan Gosling did when they won earlier this year.

It’s sophisticated and fun and doubles as a selfie wall for guests to pose in front of all night.

The execution: a red carpet and bollards, pretty backdrop, beautiful lighting, a paparazzi photographer and if you wanted to go as far as video, someone interviewing guests – “who are you wearing tonight?”.

3. Giphy Studio

Gifs are fun. Full stop. They are fun to watch, fun to make and fun to share. But really, when do you ever get the chance to make your own? This year’s silly season is the perfect opportunity to get a giphy studio. It will have your guests in stitches.

To execute you will need the help of The Ultimate Selfie professionals.

4. Selfie Studio Photo Booth

Selfies have absolutely taken the world by storm, and with the power of technology photo booths have gone from being in the big boxes you would see in shopping malls (or still do) to compact selfie photo booths that can be set up practically anywhere.

With a Selfie Studio Photo Booth you either pose in a full length mirror or a tablet, then bam the photo is taken on a professional camera and automatically shared on social media, or if you want to go old school it can be instantly printed. What a great gift for your guests to take home too.

To execute you will need the help of The Ultimate Selfie professionals.

5. Green Screen Photo Booth

Green screen photography can take your guests anywhere in the world, right back in time or unimaginable places.

What is green screen photography? It’s the process of photographing people in front of a green screen and superimposing them onto a digital backdrop of your choice using specialised software.

It is very popular at themed events. Think Great Gatsby with all the glitz and glamour, or fun Christmas backdrops that will transport your guests to the North Pole with Santa and his elves.

To execute you will need to hire the professionals. Speak to the EventPix team about how we can help.

Celebrating with Steve Loe

Celebrating with Steve Loe

Steve Loe is the owner of the Local Business Awards that we have been photographing for a few years now. Steve is a lover of Broadway musicals, so to celebrate his 60th birthday Steve decided to host a Broadway themed party.

Over the 30+ years of running the Local Business Awards, Steve has provided work for many entertainers in his awards shows. So he put the word out to those performers to do a couple of numbers at this birthday bash.

The response was great and performers on the night ranged from eighteen year old Alex Marcel who Steve discovered busking in Pitt St Mall through to seasoned music theatre and cabaret performers Meredith O’Reilly, Rob Johnson, Monique Montez, Tim Maddren, Evelyn Duprai, Di Solomon, Suzy Ray and Dexter Villahermosa along with TV performers Hayley Jensen and Harrison Craig (The Voice).

The production was guided by Edward Wightman (Director), Andrew Yoole (Writer and designer), David Thomas (Production Manager) and Todd Dewberry (Stage Manager).

It was our pleasure to provide The Red Carpet Experience for the Steve to welcome his guests in front of a red velvet curtain where they were captured by Cristiana, one of our regular Local Business Awards photographers.

Congratulations and thanks Steve – it was a great night.

Two of the Biggest Conferences Photographed this Year

Two of the Biggest Conferences Photographed this Year

During October we photographed two of the biggest conferences this year – the Customer Owned Banking Association Conference and The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

750 delegates gathered in Brisbane for the COBA Conference in Brisbane which we captured conference, expo and social events which brought in food trucks from the Brisbane’s Eat Street precinct.

The following week we captured 1200 delegates for the CTBUH Conference in Sydney, which was covered by three photographers over four days including visits to Sydney’s first skyscraper, the AMP Building in Circular Quay, and Sydney’s Newest at Barangaroo.
